Sushi is a traditional Japanese dish of prepared
vinegared rice (鮨飯, sushi-meshi), usually with some sugar and
salt, accompanied by a variety of ingredients (ねた, neta), such as
seafood, often raw, and vegetables. Styles of sushi and its presentation
vary widely, but the one key ingredient is "sushi rice", also referred to
as shari (しゃり), or sumeshi (酢飯).
Sushi is traditionally made with medium-grain white rice,
though it can be prepared with brown rice or short-grain rice. It is very
often prepared with seafood, such as squid, eel, yellowtail, salmon, tuna
or imitation crab meat. Many types of sushi are vegetarian. It is often
served with pickled ginger (gari), wasabi, and soy sauce. Daikon
radish or pickled daikon (takuan) are popular garnishes for the
dish.
I've tried my first roll of sushi in 2016 and I remember it so well as that was one of the best foods I've ever tried! I couldn't get enough of it. So we all know that the sushi can be quite expensive and that's why I decided to try to make my own maki rolls.
I've watched a few videos on Youtube, bought all the needed ingredients : sushi rice, rice vinegar, nori seaweed sheets, fish and etc. First rolls looked nothing like the ones in restaurants, but the taste was amazing! What was so fascinating about it that I could have picked any fillings I wanted and play around with different tastes.
That first time I've tried to make them, encouraged me to make more, and more and some more! When I moved to England, I couldn't find fried sushi around here, but was really keen to eat them, so here I tried to make them again. And succeed! And just before you know it, I started selling them on Facebook to local people! Everyone loves my sushi and I can't stop eating them too! If you love sushi too, I highly encourage you to make them yourself! It's actually pretty easy and the experience is priceless!
