During sunset, the distance between the sun and the earth
cause the light particles to travel further, in comparison to the time of
day giving us blue skies. The longer distance, in addition to the amount
of moisture and dust particles in the air which also affect light's
journey to earth cause the scientific phenomenon, light scattering. Rather
than breaking light up into a rainbow of colours which we see after rain,
the white light is limited to the longer wavelenths in its spectrum. These
being the beautiful reds, oranges, yellows and pinks we admire.
