Compost is organic matter from food/yard waste that humans can use as fertilizer for your garden/plants. Compost usually takes months to make with the right temperature and ratio of carbon to nitrogen which along with air circulation creates the perfect environment for food scraps and waste to deteriorate faster than it would naturally in the world.
Vermicomposting is a much quicker and efficent process because it involves using worms to be the main decomposers. Feed the worms your scraps and they'll chemically decompose it in their bodies and poops out what we call castings. The castings will be compost when complied together
Any bin (preferable dark colored) will work. Create several air holes for the worm to breathe in with a drill bit
Red Wrigglers are the worms that are best for decompostion of food
Fill your worm bin with some newspaper for the bedding
Each worm population has a different growth when it comes to their casting cycle, see what food they like and how long it takes for them to produce it
