Much of Vermont's vibrant foliage belongs to the sugar
maple, Vermont's state tree and the source of its famous maple syrup.
From the first metal sap spout in the 19th century, to the local
sugarhouses still thriving today, the tradition of harvesting maple
syrup every spring is deeply woven into Vermont's history and culture.
Vermont generates over 50 percent of the country's
maple syrup and in 2020 produced a record of 2 million gallons from over
3,000 sugarhouses statewide. Keep in mind that it takes roughly 40
gallons of sap to make one gallon of maple syrup!
Maple syrup is more than just for pancakes. In Vermont,
you can find maple products for most anything- cocktails, desserts,
dishes, and more!
