🌱 The Reggio Emilia Approach 🌱

A Pedagogy For Early Years And Primary Children

Invitation

An educational philosophy, the Reggio Emilia Approach is guided by the children in experiential learning in relationship with the environments. It believes in "the one hundred languages", meaning that children learn in many different ways and it is important to offer multiple opportunies for expression. It may be through reading, writing, drama, building blocks, creating a sculpture, painting, hiking, and more. The opportunities to learn are set up by the teacher and it is called "provocations" or "invitations", as in the invitiation to explore and play. It is set up with various objects, shown above, with a subject. For example, reading numbers and counting, the book about the three little pigs" and building houses, or using leaves and feathers as paint brushes. The teachers are learners alongside the children in the environment which is the third teacher, a space of process and active learning. Children share many ideas and questions so it is important to document, make it visible to see the thought process, and continue to learn. To learn more please click here!
