It's a myth that all cats are scared of water. Some actually find
water so interesting, they can't resist playing with it. There are
even some adventurous cats who enjoy going kayaking with their humans
if they get the chance.
Remember though, that behind every cool picture of a kayaking cat,
hours and hours of training took place to make it a fun experience for
the cat as well as the human.
Rome wasn't built in a day so here are some things to think about before
taking your cat to the lake:
Harness training. Make sure your cat is
100% comfortable wearing and walking in a harness.
Backpack training. Even the bravest house
panther gets scared sometimes. It's important to teach your cat their
backpack is a safe space, and make sure to always bring their backpack
so that they can hide in there if they want to. Other boats or people
can easily scare the cat.
Get used to the kayak on land before going out on the
lake.
The kayak itself can be big and scary for a cat. Make sure to give
your cat plenty of time to investigate the kayak on land before going
out on the lake. If you can, bring it inside and make it the perfect
cat playground for a week or so!
Always bring good quality snacks. When
trying something new with your cat you want to make sure it'll be a
great experience for you both. Your cat deserves lots of their
favorite treats when out on the lake. The treats will help to make the
day a pawsome memory for your cat.
Don't forget the life jacket! Even the cat
should have one. Saftey first!
Remember to have fun together. That's the
most important thing. And don't force your cat to do something
it doesn't want to do.
