Papilio zelicaon is a beautiful butterfly
native to western North America. It is called the Anise Swallowtail
because its' diet consists mostly of plants in the fennel family. When
they first become caterpillars they eat mostly leaves. As they become
more mature caterpilars, they prefer to eat the flowers (as seen in the
the above picture that I took while backpacking in Yellowstone National
Park).
