When I was young, I remember always helping my mother bake in the kicthen.
We would bake so many things: chocolate chip cookies for family dinners, cupcakes for my
classmates, or brownies for my teammates to look forward to after our
games.
I loved being there with her; watching and learning. Always asking
if I could add the next ingredient and or mix everything together.
My favorite part was that she always used to let me lick the spoon when we
were finished.
I always joke that that is the best part about baking.
But what are the reasons that I really love baking?
Baking offers me an outlet for relaxation. After a long day, I can head
to the kitchen and focus my mind on baking, and everything else seems to
fall away. All the stresses of the day, all the thoughts playing through
my head, all the tasks I need to accomplish tomorrow; they all melt
away, and its just me and whatever is in that bowl.
Baking allows me to express my creativity. All baked goods are created
from a few basic ingredients: sugar, butter, and flour. You can look up
a recipe for inspiration, tweak it, and create something all your own.
It is a sensory experience; a way to indulge your five senses. There is
always room to be innovative and experiment with different ingrdients.
Baking is an opportunity to connect with others. I feel such immense joy
when I share what I have baked with others and they enjoy it. I exchange
recipes, tips, and tricks I have learn along the way with friends.
Baking has been a conversation starter, a way to bond and bring people
together, Baking is an act of showing love, appreciation, and kindness
to someone you care about.
