What is Washoku?
"Washoku" 和食 is known as Japanese
cuisine. The kanji characters forming the word is comprised of two
components "和 (wa) and 食 (shoku)". "和 (wa)" means Japanese, or
harmony, and "食 (shoku)", means food, or to eat.
The word "Washoku" not only signifies Japanese food but symbolizes the harmonious nature of Japanese cuisine. The harmony of fresh ingredients, combined with a few simple staple seasonings, make up the majority of Japanese dishes. In 2013, Washoku was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultual Heritage.
