All About Pampas Grass

The Perfect Decor for your Home

Pampas Grass also known by its scientific name, cortaderia selloana, is the year's newest (and most surprising) trend. Cortaderia selloana is a species of flowering plant in the Poaceae family. It is referred to by the common name pampas grass, and is native to southern South America, including the Pampas region after which it is named. Pampas grass was originally introduced to California by sailors of clipper ships during the gold rush, but Joseph Sexton created an industry in 1872, when he imported the seeds of pampas grass from Argentina and raised several hundred plants. These gorgeous waving wheat-toned grasses recall vintage gardens and pastoral pastures. Just one stalk perfectly complements modern decor: minimal white walls look all the better with a stalk of pampas grass adding fluff and texture.
