Daily life of a Flight Attendant

Flight attendant

Before the flight

My routine as a flight attendant starts the day before a flight. I pack my bag and toiletry kit and iron my uniform. I sleep for at least 8 hours and wake up two hours before having to leave for the briefing. Resting well before a flight is essential, so I that I feel awake and prepared for any emergency situation.
Throughout the first year in the job, I had a hard time sleeping during the day. Now, I just close the curtains and sleep, even with the sun shining bright outside. I arrive in the base 3 hours before my flight, I perform the alcohol test which is mandatory before each flight and I go to the briefing room. I look for my flight and introduce myself to my fellow crew members. I never fly with the same colleagues, that makes it an unique experience everytime I fly. We talk about updates to safety manuals, emergency procedures, learn about the route, special passengers, special requests from our VIPs, and organize the passenger service, among other things.

During the flight

When the door closes, we perform safety demonstrations and employ a procedure known as safety check to check if passengers have fastened their seatbelts, the folding trays are in their full upright position, and all carry-on luggage is stowed away. After takeoff, when the Fast Seatbelt signs are turned off, we start to prepare the food and beverage trolleys. We deliver the service, collect the waste, and check if the passengers need anything else. We dim the lights in the cabin and let everyone rest.

Before landing

Soon comes landing. We perform the safety check procedure again and sit down and do the silent review(which is reviewing all the safety procedures, in case something went wrong during landing...like a birds strike). We disarm the doors, open the door to the ground staff and say goodbye to the passengers. Then it's time for us to go rest. We go to the hotel and have at least 24 to 30 hours (sometimes even days!) to enjoy the beach and the sun and do some shopping. On the way back, I do it all over again.
