The Swiss Women’s Strike

June 14, 2019

Roche Tower “June 14, 2019, will go down as the largest political demonstration in the recent history of Switzerland, bigger even than the women’s strike of 1991.”
– Swiss Trade Union Federation

June 14, 2019, the 2nd Swiss women’s strike, is a day to remember. Never before in Switzerland did that many people come together to protest gender inequality and sexism.

Women, non-binary people, and male allies all over the country stood up for equal rights with demonstrations of ten thousands of people in each of all bigger cities, company strikes, and several guerilla campaigns.

Driven by independent strike collectives and supported by the labor unions, the main claims were many and diverse, from equal pay to queer representation to completely ending sexism and abolishing patriarchy.

Protesting women

Though the strike was a huge success and empowering event, not enough has changed in politics and society. So we’re preparing for the 3rd Swiss women’s strike on June 14, 2021, which marks the 30th anniversary of the first one of June 14, 1991.

As we’re not going to accept this sh*t for another 30 years, we need you to make that protest even bigger.
