Lightning Bugs

Lightning bugs, also known as fireflies are natures' fireworks. They are known for their conspicuous use of bioluminescence during twilight.

Each year in late spring a natural migration of lightning bugs occurs, where thousands upon thousands of them travel together. They light in synchonisity and it is a wonder to behold. The best place to witness this magnificent event is in the Smoky Mountains, Kentucky USA.

As this is a popular event, and the park has limited available spots, each year a lottery is held to gain access. You may only enter the lottery once per year, and if you are selected you will be granted a pass to see the amazing synchronous lightning bugs in the Smoky Mountains.

Regrettably, lightning bugs are at risk. It is important we take action now, or future generations will not be able to experience the magic and wonder of these amazing creatures.
