Ardisia Humilis

My Favourite House Plant

The Ardisia Humilis is one of my first house plants. I bought it at Anga's Farm and Nursery. I believe I got it in November maybe and it has grown so much for me since then. I had to switch pots for it to thrive and I'm glad I did. I went from a glass planter for a terracotta pot. Some care tips include putting it in an area where it can get some sun light and have a humidifier near by as it loves humidity. I currently have the plant in my room in a south facing window. The pot has a mama plant and a baby. The mama plant will aways be larger in size but both given the right conditions will grow fast together. Indoors this plant won't grow too big but ouside it will grow into a tree. Athough at the rate it's growing who knows if it will stay small even indoors. Either way I love this plant and will continue help it grow as big as it wants.

Wikipedia discribes the plant as an evergreen shrub growing 1 to 2 m (rarely to 5 m) tall. The leaves are broad ovate to elliptical, 15 to 18 cm long and 5 to 7 cm broad, with a leathery texture and an acute apex. The flowers are reddish-purple to pink and 5 t0 6 mm diameter; they are produced in corymbs in mid-spring. The fruit is a red to dark purple drupe 6 mm diameter, containing a single seed, and it matures in late autumn. Visit wikipedia for more info
