2022 Chicago Marathon

Samantha running the 2021 Chicago Marathon

I ran my first marathon in 2019 and fundraised for Chicago HOPES for Kids while volunteering for them throughout 2019. Running 26.2 miles in front of thousands of spectators and crossing the finish line after 4:48 was the coolest thing I'd done at that point in my life. My 2020 entry was pushed to 2021 and my 2021 experience exceeded all expectations. More consistent training plus my mom, my cousin, and numerous friends along the course culminated in a 4:25 marathon. I decided to run the 2022 Chicago Marathon and fundraise for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). I selected AFSP because a very close friend died by suicide in 2018.

The mission statement of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide. On October 9, 2022, I will do my part by running in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon as a member of the AFSP Race for Hope team.

You can help bring hope to all of us that have been touched by suicide by contributing to my fundraiser. The money I raise for AFSP will fund scientific research, educate the public about mood disorders and suicide prevention, promote policies and legislation that impact suicide, and support survivors of suicide loss and people at risk. AFSP’s work, like my training and the race itself, is a marathon that will take perseverance, dedication, and sacrifice.
