Mandrake Magazine

Welcome to Mandrake Magazine

Pulling out the roots of creativity

Mandrake Magazine is a project by Liss Hansen. Mandrake is dedicated to the artistic discussion of the cultural use of plants, both in the past and currently. Furthermore, the project draws on multispecies ethnography to bridge the gap between the idea of human and non-human sentience. It therefore goes beyond the aesthetic use of plants, but looks at art that is created in reaction to a deeper, more intrinsic research on the relationship between plants and mankind. Mandrake is therefore an anthro-botanical inquiry into the symbiosis of plants and humans.

Mandrake
A mandrake (Mandragora officinarum) is a type species in the nightshade family Solanaceae. Its hallucinogenic properties and human resembling roots have led to its use in many religious and spiritual practices throughout history. Historically, the plant played a large role in magic rituals, and it still does today in contemporary Pagan religions such as Wicca and Heathenry. ( Wikipedia )
