Yalda night , the longest night of the year is on
December 21st. The last night of fall which in Iranian Solar Calendar is
the last day of Azar. The day after Yalda would be the first
day of winter. Yalda is celebrated with gathering of families and
relatives with special autumn fruits, dried fruits, and a combination of
nuts. It's also customary to eat watermelons on yalda, which is not an
ordinary fruit in autumn. Iranians like to read poems on yalda,
specially poems of Hafez a beloved Iranian poet.
