In 1986 at a tea shop in Taiwan, 4 simple ingredients were combined, giving birth to the first boba. Boba quickly became a cultural staple throughout Asia and reached the US by the 1990s. With increasing popularity across the US in the last decade, its widespread consumption is only expected to grow.

Bobacino, the boba tea making robot, is currently in the prototype stage, and uses an articulating arm to mix one recipe of tea, sweetened milk, syrup and tapioca balls over ice to make its boba tea. Future versions of the machine will be able to create multiple recipes.
