The Dream

The Dream, produced in 1910 by French artist Henri Rousseau, was the post-impressionist's last work before his death. Although frequently mocked by contemporaries during his lifetime for his lack of classical painting technique and poor grasp of anatomy, the French artist nevertheless rose to prominence due to his fantastical, dream-like depictions of imaginary jungles and wild beasts. The Dream is a prominent example of the artist's unique color palette, strong use of composition, and surrealistic subject matter.

It is currently a part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
