Natural Pearls: form in bodies of certain mollusks,
usually around an irritant, and always without human help of any kind
Cultured Pearls: cultured pearls require human
intervention and care. Today, most mollusks used in the culturing
process are raised specifically for that purpose
How to Tell If a Pearl is Real
Take the pearl and gently rub it along the surface of your tooth. If the
pearl is real, it will have a grittiness similar to sandpaper. If the
pearl is fake it will have a smooth texture, similar to plastic or glass.
