German Shepherd Dogs (GSDs) are medium-large sized dogs, originally from Germany. An adult male German Shepherd typically weighs 66-88 lbs (30-40 kg) and an adult female German Shepherd typically weighs 49-71 lbs (22-32 kg).
German Shepherds are usually very loyal but have high energy needs. They are considered the third most intelligent dog breed.
Due to their intelligence and loyal personalities, German Shepherds are commonly used as police dogs. They also make great service dogs or therapy dogs. Moreover, German Shepherds are great family pets.
German Shepherds come in many colors, including black/tan varieties (most common), bicolor, sable, or solid black or white. Rarely, German Shepherds may have "panda" coloring, meaning they appear white with black and brown spots.
German Shepherds may have long or short coats.
