For most of our history if you had children and wanted to keep them safe
you wanted a Pit Bull, aka the "Nanny Dog," the breed that was the most
reliable with children and adults. Now the Nanny Dog is often vilified
in the media as a demon dog breed, angry,
agressive, and
uncontrollable. It is breathtakingly ironic
that the spotlight has turned on the breed that was once the symbol of
our country and our national babysitter.
In temperance tests
the Pit Bull scored second only to Labrador Retrievers. Contrary to
popular myths, their jaws do not lock, they are not naturally
aggressive, and they feel just as much pain as any other animal.
The most tolerant, patient, gentle breed of dogs is now
embarrassingly portrayed as the most dangerous. It might be funny if
this reputation didn't mean roughly 6,000 are put to death
every day, by far the highest number of any other breed
euthanized.
That's a lot of nannies.😢
