Yorkshire Terrier

History of the Yorkie

Yorkshire Terriers originated from the county of Yorkshire in the 19th century. Different terrier breeds were bred together to create a new, unique breed that we now know as the Yorkshire Terrier. Yorkies were originally known as 'Broken Haired Scotch Terriers', but in 1874, the breed was officially named the Yorkshire Terrier.

Temperament

There are various traits that Yorkies have. Dogs of this breed tend to be intelligent, curious and loyal. They make excellent companions and lap dogs. However, they also have a tendency to suffer from separation anxiety and may bark excessively.

Yorkie Care

All Yorkies need to be brushed regularly, even Yorkies with a short coat. Brushing helps detangle, remove debris, and clear away dead hair that gets stuck in the coat and covered in body oil. Regular brushing also distributes oils to give your Yorkie’s coat a healthy sheen.
