About Black Cats

Black cats are often described as domestic cats with solid black fur. There are roughly 22 breeds of cat that can have full black fur, with the Bombay breed coming only in the distinctive black coat.

Over the many generations of the coexistence between cats and humans, there has been a number of superstitions surrounding black cats, both negative and positive. For example, in the West such as the United States, black cats are often associated with bad luck and witches. Whereas in Japan they are often viewed as good luck. This negative stigma towards black cats in the West has unfortunately led to adoption rates of black cats being lower in comparison to other coloured cats.
