This is Francesca Elisabetta, "Chessie" for short. I rescued her from a high-kill shelter in Santa Maria, California in 2011 when I was in grad school for my Ph.D. Since the day I rescued her a decade ago, she has taught me so much about love through her pure canine heart. It's because of Chessie that I became a big advocate of rescuing dogs and educating others about why you shouldn't get your dogs from a breeder. My partner and I hope to foster shelter dogs in the future. For now, we just consider ourselves lucky to get to love and be loved by Chessie every day!
Fun fact: thanks to taking a doggie DNA test, we know that Chessie is part chihuahua and part shih tzu!
