⭐ Four of my favourite London walks ⭐

The southbank
There is always something interesting to see at the Southbank Centre. This walk starts there and ends at Tower Bridge, taking in the book stalls at the BFI, the Globe, the Tate and Borough Market along the way. There are magical moments along the route, whether near the beginning when darkness falls and the blue fairy lights on the trees lead the way, or if you catch Tower Bridge opening to let a boat pass through at the other end. There's a buzz in the air as you walk along and the promise of just as much excitement on the north bank of the Thames and beyond.

The Bridges
A loop that starts and ends at Putney Bridge, via Hammersmith Bridge.I have lots of family memories along this stretch of the River Thames, which is perhaps why it's one of my favourite London walks. On the south bank you feel you're anywhere but London as you walk along the tree-lined paths, taking in that unique smell of the Thames and the birdsong. When you get to Hammersmith Bridge, it's always tempting to walk on to Barnes and we often do! There are some lovely pubs on the north bank if it's that kind of walk 😉 It's well worth leaving the Thames Path as you walk through Bishops Park to walk in the grounds of Fulham Palace, including the walled garden. The sunset from Putney Bridge looking out towards Hammersmith Bridge is spectacular on a sunny day.

London parks
We are spoilt for choice in London, both by local parks and parks in central London. One of my favourites is Richmond Park. When you get there, the big decision is whether to walk around the perimeter or walk through the middle. The nice thing about walking through the middle is getting away from the cars and visiting areas of the park such as Isabella Plantation. Deer roam freely throughout the park and it always feels special when you come across them. Another interesting part of the park is the protected view at King Henry's Mound, a tree-framed distant view of St Paul's Cathedral in the City of London.

Wimbledon Common
This is such a special place, it's so peaceful walking alongside the beautiful trees that tower above you and provide shade on a sunny day. The birdsong also feels louder and sweeter here. A walk on the common is a true adventure, I feel I discover new corners every time (which probably says more about my sense of direction!)
