Have you ever wonder why we see many variation of fur color but rarely seen brown cat?
Brown fur is a mutations of one specific gene, Tyosinase-Related Protein (TYRP1). TYRP1 determines the amount of the black pigment in the fur. This not only applies to cats, it applies to many species of mammal. The uncommon brown variation is milk chocolate (light brown) while coffee (dark brown) is a bit more common.
Who has the highest kill rate? Tiger? Lion? Puma?
The greatest killer in the cat family is the Black-Footed Cat. Only weighing 2.2-5.5 lbs (1-2.5 Kg) and tall as an IPad Mini (8 inches or 20 cm), this prey has a predation success rate of 60% while a lion is 20%-25%. The Black-footed cat is Africa's smallest feline.
