Since the 70's, roller skaters have been shredding it up at skate parks.
While challenging, it offers the skater the closest thing to the feeling
of flying. Dropping into bowls, grinding on the coping, stalls, carving,
airs, inverts and flips are some of the many different kinds of skills
park skaters work on.
The difficulty of achieving these skills requires dedication, hard work
and a lot of conquering fears. This is a huge part of why park skating is
so rewarding. While it's a physically demanding sport, it doesn't take
long for skaters to realize there are a lot of mental gymnastics involved,
as well. A lot of skills can be terrifying at all levels, beginnner to
advanced. Overcoming one's fears is one of the most exciting and rewarding
aspects of park skating.
Another great thing about park skating is the community. It is a great way
to meet people who are eager to see others succeed. Most skaters will take
the time to help others learn a new skill. They will also be the ones
cheering the loudest when they see someone nail a trick they've been
working on. The support from others is a huge part of what makes the
skating community so strong.
