Chessington World of Adventures

A theme park, zoo and hotel resort located in Greater London in the UK

Chessington World of Adventures logo

Chessington World of Adventures opened in 1931 as 'Chessington Zoo'. It was later developed into a theme park by The Tussauds Group and was opened to the public in 1987, making it one of the first themed amusement parks in Britain.

The theme park features over 40 rides, and the zoo has over 1,000 animals. The resort also includes two hotels, a high ropes course and a camp site. Now owned by Merlin Entertainments, Chessington World of Adventures is made up of 9 themed worlds including Forbidden Kingdom, Land of the Dragons and Wild Woods.

Vampire

Vampire is a suspended swinging roller coaster located in the Wild Woods area of the park. It opened in 1990 and is made up of over 2,200 ft of track that winds through the treetops at a top speed of 45mph!

Dragon's Fury

Opening in 2004, Dragon's Fury can be found in the Land of the Dragons. This spinning coaster twists and turns along 1,706 ft of track, reaching heights of over 50 ft!

Tomb Blaster

Tomb Blaster opened in 2002, replacing the (in my opinion) much better 'Terror Tomb'. This dark ride is located in the park's Forbidden Kingdom land, and takes riders on a journey through a series of crypts equipped with a laser gun to shoot mummies and scarab beetles in order to rid the tomb of its evil curse.

Tiger Rock

This classic log flume has been a mainstay of Chessington since the park opened in 1987, originally under the name of 'Dragon River'. While the track layout has remained the same over the years, the ride has recently been re-themed to fit in with the park's new Land of the Tiger. As part of the re-theme, riders are supposed to be able to view tigers in their enclosures which are placed around the track - however, on my recent visit we didn't spot a single one.

Croc Drop

This recent addition to the park, opening in 2021, forms part of the Forbidden Kingdom section of the park. Much like 'Tomb Blaster', the ride's storyline centres around a curse that must be broken by braving the 25m drop into the jaws of an ancient Egyptian Crocodile God.
