The world's most usual bird

Cute Kākāpō

Meet the Kākāpō, a large and flightless parrot who looks like an owl faced, moss covered potatoe

New Zealand voted for the Kākāpō as their bird of the year twice, both in 2008 and 2020. In 2020 it was close competition in spite of voter fraud, where it was disovered that 1500 votes were cast at around 3am from the same IP address all for the little spotted kiwi, which marred the competition and really had people in a flap. The New Zealanders take the competition seriously and even post poned their general political election as to not be overshadowed by the birds.

Kākāpō used to live throughout Aotearoa, but today they only survive on predator free islands. They are slow breeders, they nest on the ground, and their main defence is to imitate a shrub.

The Kakapo was also embroiled in a selacious sex tape which was broadcast on the BBC in 2009. See the video here 😉

There are only 201 Kākāpō alive today😢
