'One Ring to Rule Them All...'
An infamous line from a most-beloved trilogy of books turned films. Like
some epic fantasy literature, the Lord of the Rings was
initially considered impossible to film due to the length and breadth of
the story. An legendary tale of a small Hobbit, holding the fate of all
the peoples of Middle-Earth in his hands in the form of a ring that
could wield incredible destructive power; a Ranger hiding from his royal
heritage; a Wizard hoping to guide a fellowship of companions to destroy
the ring - could it ever be filmed in the way it deserved?
Enter Peter Jackson, a niche New Zealand director with a deep passion for the project. Together with his collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, Jackson managed to transfer the story from page to screen, filming for three years to create the trilogy - three films to do justice to the six-book saga. The result? An epic movie adventure that thrilled fans, brought the story to new generations and yet remained true to J.R.R. Tolkien's original narrative.
Is it the beautiful New Zealand landscape? The emotive storytelling? The actors immersing themselves wholly in their Elvish, Dwarvish or Orcish counter-parts? The rousing speeches and epic battle-scenes? It's all of these. That's what makes the Lord of the Rings trilogy so infinitely re-watchable...and if you haven't seen or read them yet, an adventure unlike any other awaits. Want to find out more?
