No drama, llama!

Learn about my friends: llamas, alpacas and vicuñas

Since I actually had no idea, what content to use for my final project for SheCodes , I started to look around and spot the cover of my notepad, where I wrote down all the coding stuff I`ve learned in the last three weeks. It has got a llama on it, because these cute animals seem to have replaced unicorns as (allegedly) the world‘s favorite animal adornment. I thought it would be a good idea to choose this topic for my project, because it also refers to one important event of my life, which is my first stay in Peru in 2010. When speaking about llamas, it is almost inevitable to also mention alpacas, and then one should, sooner or later, also think of vicuñas, and actually also of guanacos (which I ignore here). So here we go! Enjoy my first coding project EVER and I hope it makes you smile 😊.

Llamas

The llama (Lama glama) is a domesticated South American camelid, widely used as a meat and pack animal by Andean cultures since the Pre-Columbian era. Llamas are very social animals and live with others as a herd. Their wool is very soft and lanolin-free. Llamas can learn simple tasks after a few repetitions. When using a pack, they can carry about 25 to 30% of their body weight for 8 to 13 km.

Alpacas

The alpaca (Vicugna pacos) is a species of South American camelid descended from the vicuña. It is similar to, and often confused with, the llama. However, alpacas are often noticeably smaller than llamas. The two animals are closely related and can successfully cross-breed. Alpacas and llamas are related to the guanaco. There are two breeds of alpaca: the Suri alpaca and the Huacaya alpaca.

Vicuñas

The vicuña (Vicugna vicugna) or vicuna[2] (both /vɪˈkuːnjə/, very rarely spelled vicugna, which is actually the name of its genus)[3][4] is one of the two wild South American camelids which live in the high alpine areas of the Andes, the other being the guanaco. Vicuñas are relatives of the llama, and are now believed to be the wild ancestor of domesticated alpacas, which are raised for their coats.
