Padel or padel tennis is a racket sport described as a mix between tennis and squash. It's played in doubles on an enclosed court surrounded by walls of glass and metallic mash. The court is one third of the size of a tennis court. Like tennis, you play doubles, BUT the sport becomes much more fast and dynamic through the additional use of the back walls. The walls also makes the sport more fun and complex as players often play longer rallies. Although it looks difficult when watching pro-players, the unique thing about padel is that really anyone can learn how to play relatively quickly. It is easy to have fun rallies with your friends, regardless of the difference in racket experience. Learn more on Wikipedia.
Personally, I became addicted to Padel due to my parents obssession with
the sport. A few years ago, one of the first padel centers opened up close
to our family's home and my parents, especially my mom, starting spending
almost every free moment there. Since then all of us were unable to stop.
It's addictive, it's social, fun and the learning curve beats any other
sports that I have tried so far (and I have tried quite a few 😉). Our
whole family has become a padel family and it's a way for us to come
together - to play with one another on weekends, watch each other compete
during national tournaments or train one another.
I try to play as much as I can in the Netherlands or when I am home for
a visit. Now that I have been in Sweden for the last couple of months, I
have been trying to train at least 3 times a week with training help
from my mom.
The rest of my family play even more regularly and compete in Swedish
series and tournaments. My dad is a coach and player of the senior Swedish
Team. My mom and sister have gotten nationally ranked and are to date,
some of the best players in Sweden. My other sister won girls 13 nationals
just the other week. My mom and dad have started a PadelJunkie x Anto
company to sell padel clothes collection and my mom is even sponsored by
one of the biggers sports brands of Sweden. It is all very cool and
exciting 🤩
