Yorkshire Terrier

Yorkshire Terriers, commonly called Yorkies, are little dogs with tenacious personalities. Based on the stats gathered by the American Kennel Club in 2019 and boasting a worldwide list ranking of #12, they are one of the most popular dog breeds. Though technically categorized in the toy group, they take on many terrier traits as well. Yorkies tend to be extremely vocal, protective, and loyal.

Origin

Yorkies were developed during the 19th century in Yorkshire, England. The breed comes from three different dogs: Paisley Terrier, Skye Terrier, and Scottish Terrier. Yorkies made their way to the United States in 1872, however, the first Yorkie wasn't registered by the American Kennel Club until 1885. Learn more at AKC
