More than just the "Mexican Bloody Mary"



The michelada is perhaps one of the most famous Mexican cocktails, ranking slightly below in popularity to the notorious margarita. A carne asada feels incomplete without at least one or five to wash down your meal. Often described as the "Mexican Bloody Mary," its base is pretty simple: your (traditionally light) beer of choice, tomato juice (preferably Clamato), lime juice, and hefty splash of hot sauce. The 🌶️spicier🌶️ the better! Also known as a red beer, chelada, or miche, its exact origins are unclear. A popular story tells of a cantina patron who may have been a general during the Mexican Revolution named Michel who would order a simplified version so often that others began to order it as well as "Michel's chelada". Like its popular cousin, the possible variations are endless as each person puts their own twist on the recipe. Most michelada drinkers will come up with their own tried and true version after many rounds of delicious experimentation.
