On June, 2020, a mandate 'stay-at-home' order was put in place. For most,
this was a something hard to believe; "Staying inside for 4 weeks
straight, who in their right mind would even find anything to do?" A valid
question, but they have yet to meet me, a self-proclaimed introvert. When
people think of an intorvert, they are mostly thinking about someone who
is shy, queit, or "not a people-person". I like to view being an introvert
as someone who chooses to see the world internally than externally. Being
gifted with breaking down innner thoughts and ideas from an obverant view
point. Also someone who finds comfort in their own company and with a
stay-at-home order in place, that's just were I found myself.
"The soul that sees beauty may sometimes walk alone." - Johann Wolfgange
Von Goethe.
During my self-quarintine, I realized a lot of things needed to be worked
on. First being my relationship with UberEats, it was time to let them go;
but another was being myself. Learning to be comfortable with ones-self,
you actually have to do the work from within. Who knew! With nothing but
free time on my hand, I was able to drive into one of my many loves;
reading. From self-healing to laugh-out-loud funny books, below are some
recommendations from the books I've read through out this quarintine!
A graphic novel that retells the classic story of Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy by Ray Terciero and Bre Indigo
tells the original material with an updated manner and readers of the original will certainly recognize the girls from their personalities, but their problems and inner feelings have been given new twists more in line with today’s young women,
from concerns about their future careers to dealing with racist bullying and their sexual identity.
A debut novel by Akwaeke Emezi. Centering around a young Nigerian woman named, Ada,
Freshwater explores the surreal, dark, unsettling, heartwrenching, and powerful
show of how we all construct our identities. Great read for spooky season too!
An intro to the 'Brown Sisters' series, Get A Life, Chole Brown.
Follows the story of a chrocinally ill woman's step-by-step guide on getting
and enjoying her life with the help of a tattooed, motorcycle riding handyman.
These next two reads wre definitely the ones that fed my soul throughout quarintine. First titled, Healing Her.
A book filled with poems that conduit for your own journey back to self-love - and allows you to hold space for the darkness,
those peaty, blackened soils that provide the most richness for personal growth.
What Happened To You? is a book that shares a conversation on trauma, resilience, and healing.
With M.D.,Ph.D Bruce D. Perry and Oprah Winfrey, it takes a deeper dives into the why factor on how
our past trauma grow and affect our adult lives.
