Known for their affection and loyalty!
A spaniel is a type of gun dog. Spaniels were especially bred to flush game out of denser brush. By the late 17th century, spaniels had been specialized into water and land breeds. Some scholars speculate the type originated in Spain, hence the name. Other research suggests that they originated in Asia and migrated west, to Europe and beyond. Spaniels go back to at least the 14th century, but their ancestry may be even older. Today the American Kennel Club recognises 15 different types of spaniels. They are all beautiful and make wonderful pets as well as good working dogs.
