Fruits normally means the fleshy seeds-associated structures
(or produce) of plants that typically are sweet or sour and edible in
the raw state, such as apples, bananas, grapes, lemons, oranges, and
strawberries. In botanical usage, the term "fruit" also includes many
structures that are not commonly called "fruits", such as nuts, bean
pods, corn kernels, tomatoes, and wheat grains. Fruits are an
excellent source of essential vitamins and minerals, and they are high
in fiber. Fruits also provide a wide range of
health-boosting antioxidants, including flavonoids. Eating a diet
high in fruits and vegetables can reduce a personโs risk of
developing heart disease, cancer, inflammation, and diabetes. Citrus fruits and berries may be especially powerful for preventing
disease.
