I mean, look at them! They are in of themselves a piece of art. How could you not like them? There are over 17,500 species of butterflies known to be fluttering around on Earth, containing many more sub-categories. Butterflies have been found to date back since the Paleocene era, which is about 56 million years ago. With that said, they have had plenty of time to change into many shaped and colors. For example, the highly known Monarch Butterfly has a "Dorsal" wing which is a very "plain" shape. But the Protographium leosthenes, or the Four-barred Swordtail, has a very unique "tailed" wing that helps them fly quickly through the air. Certain butterflies have the ability to camouflage themselves to the point of never seeing them in nature (which is the point of course). They can mimic other animals, objects, and most commonly have a pair of eyes on their wings, which helps fight off predators. On the subject of predators, butterflies are herbivores due to the fact that they do not have mouths and rely on the juices of plants and flowers.
