Travelling by Rail in Europe

The greener alternative

Travelling by train is a great way to get about, especially in Europe. Every town has a story, and the train will take you straight to the heart of it. There's no lengthy waiting around in departure lounges, or long taxi rides from an airport terminal, or tiny portholes with views only of clouds. Your train pulls into the platform, and you arrive in your destination, relaxed and ready to explore!
Trains are also much better for the environment than flying or driving. For example, a journey from London to Madrid would emit just 43kg (95lb) of CO2 per passenger by train, but as much as 118kg by plane (or even 265kg if the non-CO2 emissions are included).

These are my 5 favourite European railway stations. Click on them to find out more.
