Art Journaling is a way of capturing your thoughts, ideas,
emotions and memories in a creative way through expression of
colours, patterns and in combination with art, images, words and
different materials. It is a visual diary. It can contain lots of
writing or purely images.
The most important thing is.....
THERE ARE NO RULES!
Starting an Art Journal can be a means of mindful self-care or it
can just be a carefree approach to express yourself, thoughts and
ideas, in a creative way. It can also be a means of experimenting
with new creative techniques & materials, and exploring endless
possibilities.
It allows us to get the tangled-up thoughts & feelings in our
heads onto paper, giving us insight & understand of what they are,
a way to deal with them and move forward. It provides a creative
outlet and a deeper sense of self-awareness, motivation,
inspiration, encourage & empowers us.
It teaches us to.....
TRUST THE PROCESS!
It start with trusting the process, building layers
(even if your think it is an ugly layer, it will all come
together in the end)
, testing things and don't hold back.
I like starting with patterned papers and collage them onto my
page, then building up my background colours with either paints,
inks, watercolours, etc., followed by some stencilling & stamping
or mark-making with paint pens. Once the background is built, I
position my focal image, add a title, and finally I do some
doodling & journaling.
The process is different for everyone, you do what you like.
