Women in Technology

Technology in the UK

In the UK, only 19% of the tech industry is made up of Women, which shows the masssive gender gap leaving men to the 81% of male workers. But this figure is way smaller for black and hispanic women as it is at 3% and 5% for Asian women. As the Technology industry begins to increase in terms of diversity, there is still big a gender gap within the tech industry
which still needs major improvememt.
reason why women don't want to join the tech industry is because of the fact the it is a male dominated industry,
females from a young age have been taught to domestic careers from a very early age which discourge us to explore new career choices, The challenge for women.

What is currently happening in tech for women.

Now that the women are joining the tech industry this give the ability to motivate other females,
be open to new ideas and get higher job promotions which in the uk only 5% of leadership positions are women
which will help encourage younger females and women to want to work in the tech industry creating a stronger balance between the workforce. with the new ideas us women can bring to more ideas to pitch to a company,
allowing improvement in technology sectors closing the gaps, that may often been closed of to women,
increasing the current 5% in leadership positions currently in the UK.

How to encourage younger girls to get into computer science

One way to encourage younger girls to get into the tech industry is by opening them up to the idea of computer science
through a computer science workshop for girl aged from 13+ to help them explore the tech world.
Another way is by doing research, this can help by providing may ways of n learning how to code especially through bootcamps.

My experience so far in technology

So my journey in tech has been going great so far, doing this shecodes workshop
I've always had an interest for tech because of the satifaction that came from watching tv shows where there was cartoon characters which were often all females which really stood out to me.
I started to take my career into my own hands
due to it being my last few years of secondary education going a-levels next year. During this summer I was focused on learning more about tech and deepening my knowledge about computer science as a degree itself, internship programs and lectures about the big 4 tech companies.
While being in school i've used it as a chance to educate more people about women in tech movement and encourage other people around me to suggest trying a possible career in tech.
Hopefully I would achieve my dreams of working at one of the big 4 and help eventually get us females the representation needed.
