Refugees are people who have fled war, violence, conflict or
persecution and have crossed an
international border to find safety in another country. They often have
had to flee with little more than the clothes on their back, leaving
behind homes, possessions, jobs and loved ones. United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has created a mandate to ensure the
safety of refugees seeking asylum. The UNHCR mandate states that
international protection is available for all people who fear unsafe or
injustice within their country and to find a solution for these problems.
The UNHCR assists millions of displaced and stateless people by ensuring
their rights and wellbeing are in place by offering many avenues for these
people to find safety and a place to call home.
