🎗Surviving Breast Cancer

My Fifth Cancerversary

Next month marks my Fifth Cancerversary. You may be wondering - what's the heck is a cancerversary? It's the anniversary of a time, date, or event in a person's life touched by cancer. Since everyone's journey is different, people measure and celebrate their milestones in a variety of ways.

For me, I celebrate the day cancer left my body. I am a two time survivor - once as a teenager and once as an adult. Each anniversary, I reflect on how much my life has changed, and I am profoundly grateful for how far I've come.

For my five-year milestone, I wanted to do something fun. I decided to celebrate by learning a new skill and signed up for a coding class at SheCodes. For my course project, I wanted to share some statistics and ways you can protect yourself from breast cancer.

Joseph Campbell has a beautiful quote that encapsulates what I learned from cancer, “We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” Embrace what comes your way. You never know where life may take you. And most importantly, take care of your health!
