Animal Crossing: Population Growing

Villagers

The villagers give the game the life and sense of community that so many players love. With 8 personality types, 35 distinct species, and 397 unique designs you are sure to find one that you love! But looks aren't the only thing that draw players to certain villagers, the interactions and friendships your character creates with the villagers can feel real, iclining you give daily gifts to the kinder characters or secretly hope for a less friendly character to move out. There is so much to the villagers in each game, making each installment extra memorable.

Special Characters

Blathers, museum-running owl with dark brown feathers, a light-brown-and-white patterned belly, and yellow beak, legs, and feet from Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Special characters are different to villagers in that they have a special role and tend to be more unique. These special roles come with special options for the character and new machanics and goals for the player. Blathers, for example, is an owl who runs the local museum. He's unique in that there is no owl species of regular villagers, and that he has an actual purpose. Without him, there would be no way to donate to the museum, and no museum would exist.

Seasons & Holidays

Another unique aspect of the game is that it's aligned with real time, and therefore you can experiance the seasons and holidays at the same time you do in real life. The seasons affect the active bugs, fish, and deep sea creatures – while a handful of these are available year-round, many can only be caught during specfic seasons.
Holidays can change up your gameplay, whether for a day or over a week. The game series has its own names for these holidays, such as Turkey Day (Thanksgiving), Bunny Day (Easter), and Toy Day (Christmas). Each event is unique, with its own special character, goals, and rewards!

Other Mechanics

Other mechanics that make this game series unique is the ability to fish, catch bugs, and dive for deep sea creatures. You can also dig up fossils and donate them to your museum! There are seasonal Bug-Offs and Fishing Tourneys as well, each with their own coinciding prizes. You can grow fruit trees and sell the constantly replenishing fruits, take a shot at the turnip-based stalk market, and build up and decorate your own house!
There is always something to do, even after you have finished the main story, and this open endedness is one of the things that players love most about this game!
