Frogs are any member of the incredibly diverse order
Anura (or "without tail" in ancient Greek).
Despite their variety, they are all short-bodied, tailless amphibians.
There are about 7,300 recorded species of frogs, which is
about 88% of all amphibians. Frogs are environmental
bellwethers, meaning scientists use the health of frog populations to
help judge the general health of an ecosystem. More than one third of
species are considered threatened and over 120 species
have gone extinct since the 1980s.
Frogs are an important part of many ecosystems, from subarctic regions
to tropical rainforests!
