Each of the 397 villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is assigned to one of eight personality types. These personality types affect what your villagers say, how they behave, the DIY recipes they can give you and the reactions they teach you. The eight villager personality types are divided by gender - four types for female villagers and four types for male villagers.


1. Normal

Normal villagers are known for their sweet dialogue and naivete. Some common interests they have are reading or cooking, and often discuss what they read with the player. In this respect, they are the female counterpart to Lazy villagers. Within Animal Crossing: New Horizons there are 61 villagers with the Normal personality type, making them the most common female personality. 2. Lazy

Lazy villagers have a relaxed and easygoing approach to living on your island. They are generally friendly and hospitable when interacting with the player and other villagers.The name refers to their calm, laid-back lifestyle as well as their hospitable nature and love of food. 3. Peppy

Peppy villagers are portrayed as energetic, excited, and want nothing more than to become a pop star. These particular personality types are a bit over the top in their mannerisms, but are always fun to be around. There are currently 51 Peppy villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. 4. Jock

Jock villagers (as their name suggests) are energetic and have an interest in physical fitness and activity. Jocks are often depicted as energetic and obsessed with sports, talking frequently about their love of sports and exercise. There are currently 55 Jock villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. 5. Sisterly

Sisterly villagers (sometimes referred to as "Big Sister" personality) are very caring towards the player and are less vain than the snooty or peppy villagers, but they are also more blunt, straightforward, and tomboyish and may come across as rude on some occasions. 6. Smug

Smug villagers are very polite, kind, and gentleman-like, and are very interested in style. They seem to be a mix between all personality types and are lively, kind, and positive, but may come off as conceited. There are currently 35 Smug villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. 7. Snooty

Snooty villagers are well-spoken and polite, but sometimes appear self-centered and arrogant towards other villagers, including the player. If the player talks to them often, they open up and become more talkative, and will sometimes give the player lessons in fashion. 8. Cranky

Cranky villagers typically are quite stubborn and they can be rather impolite. They enjoy lighthearted sarcasm, such as joking about their "sunny disposition" when the weather is nice outside.
