There are many different types of romances, each filling a different need of the reader. Below are examples of three broad genres of romance. There are of course many, many, many others and the below categories include further tropes and categorizations.
Categories
Paranormal
Paranormal romances include aspects beyond reality. These include
things like magic, vampires, werewolves, etc.
Kresley Cole writes a well-known paranormal series
called Immortals After Dark.
Historical
Historical romances include any romance written in an earlier era.
Some of the most common subgenres include Regency, Scottish, and
Victorian romances.
Lisa Kleypas
is a great example of a historical romance author, known for her
series
Wallflowers.
Contemporary
Contemporary romances take place now (or in the recent past)!
Kate Meader writes a contetmporary sports romance
series called Rookie Rebels. In recent years, attention has
been drawn to the dearth of diversity in most romance novels and
