When I started my garden, I didn't know what I was doing in the slightest. In fact, I had a long-standing history of being a black-thumbed plant killer. I went into gardening thinking that it would be a miracle if I harvested even one veggie. Little did I know that I'd be looking up recipes and learning to can in order to use up all the fruits and veggies I grew!
Heirloom fruits and veggies are especially fun to discover and grow
because you rarely see them in the grocery store. Finding out that you can
grow yellow, purple, striped, and even black tomatoes is very cool. And,
let's face it, what emo gardener
doesn't want to grow a whole row of black tomatoes?
I personally loved planting and harvesting my Cherokee Purple and White
Tomesol tomatoes, as well as my Mountain Sweet Yellow watermelons. They
were all uniquely delicious and so different than what I was used to
getting at my local grocery store.
