Girls Who Code™,
was founded in 2011 after
Reshma Saujani attempted to run
for Congress for the state of New York. Although she did not win the
election, her time on the campaign trail was not spent in vain. She
visited many schools and noticed that there were not many female students
in STEM classes...
Reshma noticed that the many young female students she did meet lacked
confidence and/or expressed a need to be perfect. Reshma although never
elected, decided to take her failed attempt at running for office and turn
it into a
victory. It was this moment when she failed that she
decided to make it her life's mission to help girls understand that they
should fight to be
BRAVE, NOT PERFECT
by teaching girls to code. It was through coding that they could see that
it is okay to make mistakes and not be perfect.
